A law-enforcement shooting near Woodland Park, Colorado, prompted a shelter-in-place order Tuesday morning after two Colorado State Patrol troopers were shot during a traffic stop, leading authorities on a search for the suspect.

The incident happened at approximately 7:15 a.m. on August 25, 2026, near U.S. Highway 24 and Piney Point Lane, west of Woodland Park, when troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop and were fired upon. Officials said both troopers were struck during the shooting.

One trooper suffered serious injuries, while the second trooper sustained injuries described as minor. Both officers were transported for medical treatment following the attack. Their identities have not been publicly released.

Following the shooting, authorities launched an extensive search for the suspect, who reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle. The Teller County Sheriff’s Office issued a shelter-in-place order for nearby neighborhoods, including the Westwood Lakes subdivision and surrounding areas, advising residents to remain indoors, secure their homes and stay away from windows and doors.
